An analytical note of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy revealed that favorable agrometeorological conditions in October contributed to the development of pre-sown areas of winter crops. This information is reported by ProAgro Group.
According to the analysis of scientists of the Institute of Grain Crops of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, winter wheat plants sown in the optimal period (September 10-25) are in good condition: they are 17 to 25 cm in height and have an average of 1.5 to 4 shoots per plant. However, winter wheat sown later (early and mid-October) is showing a lower level of development.
According to forecasts, late winter crops may have limited development due to the lack of necessary heat. Plants sown at a later date may end the growing season in an underdeveloped state or even fail to sprout at all. We emphasize that the condition of crops is assessed as good or satisfactory in most of Ukraine, but there are potential risks associated with late sowing that may affect the development of crops before the onset of winter.
It is important to note that the predicted impact of the lack of heat on late crops requires attention and possible adjustments in their care, especially if weather conditions deteriorate in the coming weeks. Proper care and monitoring of these crops can be crucial for their successful development before the onset of winter.
