Five European Union countries - Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary - have expressed their intention to extend the ban on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products after September 15. In response, Kyiv expressed its categorical disagreement with this decision.
The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasizes that the extension of trade restrictions on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products is absolutely unacceptable. In addition, Ukraine is confused by the intention to add other categories of Ukrainian products to the list of banned goods.
It is noted that Ukraine calls on the leadership of the European Union and related countries that have received additional funding for the relevant sectors from the European budget to find a balanced solution. Only through solidarity can we face the challenges posed by Russia's aggression against Ukraine and strengthen the EU Single Market.
Such restrictions could negatively affect Ukrainian agricultural producers and grain exporters, as the European Union is one of the most important markets for Ukrainian agricultural products. An import ban could cause serious losses and difficulties for Ukrainian agricultural companies.
The situation is complex as Ukraine tries to maintain its agricultural interests and ensure food security in the face of Russian aggression and geopolitical tensions. Ukraine and the European Union have previously worked together to support the Ukrainian agricultural sector.
The situation remains on a diagonal path, and further developments will depend on the decisions of the EU countries and cooperation with Ukraine on this issue.
