Apricots in Ukraine: prices and features of the first harvest

Ukrainian producers started selling the first batches of apricots this week. According to analysts of the EastFruit project, prices for this fruit start at 50 UAH per kilogram.

According to the project's daily monitoring, this year's apricot harvest in Ukraine will be the lowest in 5 years. Many gardeners report a 50% to 80% crop loss in this segment. However, this is not yet reflected in prices, as demand for this product is quite low.

This season, orchardists started selling apricots two weeks later than last year.

"As of today, apricots are offered for sale in small batches at a price of 50-60 UAH per kilogram, which is on average 33% cheaper than the first batches of stone fruits a year ago," analysts say.

According to experts, wholesale companies and retail chains are currently working mainly with imported apricots, which are available in large quantities on the domestic market.

Local apricots are offered in limited quantities, the fruits are usually small and often damaged by various diseases, which significantly reduces their shelf life. Therefore, many retail chains do not consider Ukrainian farmers as suppliers this season and focus only on imported products.

As a reminder, the red and black currant sales season started in Ukraine this week. Currently, Ukrainian gardeners are ready to supply berries at UAH 50-70 per kilogram.
