Potatoes are getting cheaper in Ukraine: why prices are falling and what analysts predict

19 апр, 12:09

Ukrainian farmers are forced to reduce potato prices in line with current market conditions. According to the EastFruit analytical project, wholesale prices for this vegetable on Ukrainian markets have fallen by an average of 14% to UAH 12-17 per kilogram, which is a significant drop compared to the previous week.

Key market participants report that the supply of potatoes remained high, while demand for the product was declining. The reason for this decline in prices, according to them, was not only market conditions, but also the quality of the products offered, which was often complained about by buyers, forcing them to refuse to purchase.

The daily monitoring of the EastFruit project also confirms that wholesale potato prices in Ukraine have fallen to UAH 12-17 per kilogram. This price level is currently 14% lower than last week. However, it is worth noting that even after such a reduction, the cost of potatoes remains on average 2.7 times higher than in the same period last year.

Analysts emphasize that given the significant volumes of potatoes on the market, Ukrainian farmers do not rule out further reduction in the price of this product. This situation may be due to low demand and oversupply, which will force sellers to reduce prices to keep sales channels active.
