Cabbage prices have risen sharply: why?

17 апр, 14:08

This week, the market has seen a change: prices for white cabbage have risen sharply. The reason for this is a seasonal decrease in the supply of this vegetable along with increased demand.

According to EastFruit analysts, the amount of white cabbage from last year's harvest on the market has decreased significantly, and demand remains high. Farmers, having the right amount of cabbage, raised its prices.

Now prices for this vegetable range from 8 to 13 hryvnias per kilogram ($0.20 to 0.33 per kg), which is 40% higher than at the end of last week.

Despite the fact that prices are now 38% lower than last year, the upward trend may continue. Sellers note a sudden decrease in inventory, which may lead to further price increases in the near future.

It should also be noted that in the first days of April, the cabbage market showed a downward trend in demand and, consequently, prices. The main reason for this is the poor quality of the vegetable due to prolonged storage.
